About Uncle Chen Chinese Eatery

Uncle Chen Chinese Eatery is one of the chinese restaurants listed in Fountain Valley, California. The business is registered at 18774 Brookhurst St, Fountain Valley, CA 92708; use this page to check its hours, phone number and Google rating before you make the trip.

In cities with a Chinatown, weekend mornings bring dim sum carts or order sheets, and lines form early at the most popular spots in Fountain Valley; walk-ins are standard and reservations are uncommon outside large banquet restaurants. Regional labels matter: Cantonese, Sichuan, Hunan, Shanghainese and Taiwanese kitchens cook very differently, so a restaurant's stated region is a better guide to the food than the word "Chinese" alone. Some smaller restaurants in California are BYOB with no corkage fee; call ahead to confirm. A tip of 15-20% is customary for table service but not expected at counter-order takeout. Spice level, MSG and allergen questions are normal to ask before ordering, and most kitchens are happy to leave an ingredient out or tone down the heat if you mention it when ordering rather than after the food arrives.

The business lists hours on 7 days of the week. On most of those days it is open 11 am–9 pm. As with most places, expect changes around holidays; the phone number below is the fastest way to confirm. You can reach Uncle Chen Chinese Eatery at (714) 369-2016; calling is usually the quickest way to ask about availability, prices or directions.

Its Google rating is 4.2 out of 5 from 35 reviews, a solid but mixed picture; reading the most recent reviews will tell you what to expect.

We took a chance and Googled "Chinese food near me". Uncle Chen came up. We were a very late lunch and the restaurant was empty. We were greeted right away by the friendly staff. We ordered eggplant, Chow fun, fried rice and salt and pepper calamari. The food was very good, not over sauced or sweet. The flavors were subtle and tasty, not overpowering like so much Chinese food is today. I will highly recommend this restaurant, and the next time we feel like eating Chinese food we will come back here.

I’m Chinese, and I can say without a doubt this place is really good that I keep coming back about once a week. I’m almost a regular and have tried about 1/8 of the dishes on the menu and continue to try the rest that I’m familiar with. Happy to say I don’t need to drive all the way to Irvine to find a Chinese restaurant if I can just go to Uncle Chens! Don’t believe the negative reviews, take my advice - I know what authentic Chinese food tastes like. Don’t order the typical Panda Express or Chinese fast food menu items like Lucky Chinese down the street, those are not authentic dishes, those are Americanized. Try to explore other menu items or take my advice of menu recommendations. Next time I’ll be trying the Dan Dan noodles, and zhajiang noodles. :) Some menu recommendations: -Stir Fried green beans: 4/5 - tasted authentic -Squirrel fish - 2/5 (unfortunately they used the wrong fish aka catfish, and the sauce was very Americanized sweet and sour sauce). -Minced beef egg soup (aka West lake beef soup) - 4/5 - tasted authentic -Kung pao chicken - 5/5 ( reminded me of childhood) - orange peel chicken - 4/5 - braised pork belly - 5/5 ( when done right, tried this twice, first ti

Ordered takeout here because we got a flyer at our house. Cashew chicken and chow mein were extremely bland— the wok cooked taste just wasn’t there for Chinese. Also, rice is not included and sold separately, so we were left with entrees and no rice and that was not mentioned online. Such a bummer because the ambiance is really nice and the restaurant itself is modern and obviously new, but a modern look only goes so far. Hopefully they can improve so we can keep that space filled. We just won’t be back.

I'm actually shocked how somebody can leave a review about the food from Uncle Chen's being a poor quality and substandard number one I've already eaten there I was so impressed that I took my girlfriend there we ordered the denden noodles in peanut sauce which was fantastic next was the filet mignon with mushrooms and mushrooms are probably about an inch or larger in size it was absolutely braised perfectly in delicious the fried rice which is their house special is the best fried rice I've had since I was a very young man it is fresh it doesn't have some kind I don't know where the other reviewer said some frozen vegetable taste absolutely untrue it is not smashed with soy sauce it is a fresh light delicious fried rice spectacular quite honestly we also had the the walnut shrimp which was absolutely fantastic giant jumbo shrimp with candied walnuts with absolutely delicious and we had the shrimp egg rolls which were very fresh piping hot and also delicious all in all everything that we ordered was a 9.5 to a 10 and I will definitely be coming back with a giant brood of about 20 to 25 people because Uncle Chen's is that good it is clean the silverware so you can tell place is qual

I ordered take out from Uncle Chens to see if they're offering something other than standard American style chinese food and if it could be a new spot worth adding to my list of frequented restaurants. Based on the food I ordered...its a NO. I ordered Eggplant In Spicy Sauce (Overcooked, mushy and Oily) , Fried Vegetable Rice (Barely fried with an overpowering frozen vegetable taste) Wor Won Ton Soup ( Lots of won tons and hardly any other ingredients in a bland broth) and Beef Chow Fun (Beef was chewy and fatty). Overall the food was lacking flavor and sub-standard. I thought I might try it again in a month to see if they improve the recipes but this is standard American style Chinese food, not ancient recipies from the Ming dynasty. It shouldn't be that difficult. The prices were a little on the high side and my expectations were high as well. Uncle Chens is not worth the calories or the money.
